CD4017 led chaser circuit using 555 timer is most commonly used circuit for light decoration or light running circuit. This circuit consists of 2 main components 555 timer IC and CD4017 IC. Timer IC 555 is a astable multivibrator circuit while CD 4017 IC is counter IC. We can make LED chaser in a Varity of ways by using counter IC 4017. You can use counter IC without timer IC for LED chasing. In this article we will explain in detail all possible designs of LED chasing using CD 4017 and timer IC 555.
CD4017 led chaser circuit Circuit Diagram
Circuit diagram of LED chaser using CD4017 and Timer IC is given below. It can be modified according to requirements.
COMPONENT USED CD4017 led chaser circuit
The list of components that are used in this LED chasing Circuit is given below you can change the design in verity of ways as we discussed in introduction.
- IC 555 Timer IC
- IC 4017 Counter IC
- LED
- 10K POT
- 10k Resistor
- Resistor 680 ohm
- capacitor 0.01uf
- 10uF CAP
- Custom PCB or without PCB
As you can see that timer ic 555 is wired as an Astable Multivibrator and its output of this IC is connected to the clock input of counter IC CD4017. Frequency of timer IC is controlled by resistors R1, RV1 and capacitor C1. Power supply is given through VCC (8th pin) and GND (1st pin) according to IC properties. We can change frequency through veritable resistor 10k. LED D1 is used as and indictor of timer IC output. R3 is connected with D1 for protection of burning.
On counter IC CD4017 16th pin is connected to + supply and 8th pin is connected to ground or negative supply. Output of timer IC is connected to the 14th pin of counter IC. All LEDs are connected to the output of IC CD4017. We have used only 1 resistor R2 for the limiting current for All KEDs.
CD4017 led chaser Working
Working of CD4017 led chaser circuit using 555 timer is described in the gif image given below. A you know as output of timer IC changed it changed output of 4017 IC in series.
